Gilda Rogers is a busy woman, and she likes it that way. She is, above all, a social justice advocate and historian as the vice president of the T. Thomas Fortune Foundation in Red Bank. Immersed in the arts at a young age by her grandmother, Gilda developed a love of culture and history and went on to receive her Master's from Monmouth University. She is an educator at Brookdale Community College teaching American History, as well as an artist, author, an award-winning journalist, and playwright. She was named "Humanitarian of the Year" in 2017 by the Monmouth County Human Relations Commission, and honored with a "Women of Achievement" award in 2018 by The American Association of University Women.
Gilda discusses growing up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and her first experiences with racial discrimination upon moving to Virginia in the fourth grade. She returned to Elizabeth during her teenage years, eventually moving to Monmouth County to begin her important work of social change.
